A sublimated jersey is built to last, because the design is dyed into the fabric and not stuck on top. Look after it properly and it will stay sharp for years. Here is the simple routine to keep your team gear looking new.
Always wash in cold water. Cold protects the fabric and keeps colours from dulling over time. Turn jerseys inside out first to reduce rubbing against zippers and other gear in the wash. Use a mild detergent and a gentle cycle.
No bleach, and no fabric softener. Bleach is obvious, but softener is the sneaky one. It leaves a coating that clogs the fabric and reduces the moisture wicking that makes a performance jersey work. Skip it entirely. For odour, a splash of white vinegar in the wash does more good than softener ever will.
Group jerseys with similar colours and avoid overloading the machine so they have room to move and rinse clean. Wash team kit together and away from towels or anything that sheds lint or has rough zippers and velcro.
Hang jerseys to air dry whenever you can. High dryer heat is the main enemy of any athletic fabric over time, and air drying is gentler and keeps the fit true. If you must use a dryer, use the lowest heat or an air only setting and take them out while slightly damp.
Do not iron directly on a jersey, and never put a hot iron on the printed areas. Polyester does not need ironing, and direct heat can damage the fabric. If you need to smooth a wrinkle, hang the jersey in a steamy bathroom or use a garment steamer held slightly away from the surface.
Because sublimation dyes the colour into the fibres, there is no print layer to crack, peel, or wash away.
